The 1982 Sandeman Vintage Porto has a disjointed bouquet that lacks real fruit intensity: singed leather, licorice and a touch of peppermint. The palate is actually more concentrated than the nose suggests and is nicely balanced: dried fig, dates and raisin with cloves emerging toward the slightly tapered finish. This 1982, an outre declaration, is missing presence and feels faded by time. Drink now.

Healthy pale tawny rose colour. A mite woody on the nose but with attractive milk-chocolate fruit. Attractive palate actually. Clean and not the biggest wine but on the palate it seems well balanced, even if the acidity is a little pronounced on the finish. Prunes on the rather sudden finish. (JR)
