Dark crimson with a nuanced rim. Thick and bloody and with lots of intensity and concentration. Not the purest nose – some brett? – but extremely good wine. Very well balanced and concentrated. (JR)
Savoury and a bit austere. Good structure though. Very smart. Round fruit with lots of mineral elements. Still youthful but nothing wrong with that. (JR)
A sleeper of the vintage, this noteworthy effort offers a deep ruby/purple color along with a sweet, expressive bouquet of spring flowers, blackberries, and cassis. Abundant fruit, supple tannin, medium body, and a silky mouthfeel result in an irresistible claret. Enjoy it over the next 10-14 years.
About the producer
The 40 hectares of this Pauillac Fifth Growth are spread across three sites, pieced together in the 18th century by Pierre Ducasse. Today owned by France’s Crédit Agricole bank, they have some very fine vineyard land, with their northernmost plot neighbouring Mouton and Lafite.
