The 2012 Sigalas Rabaud is lighter in shade compared to the 2011, while the bouquet offers superior definition and more freshness. The nose offers light, attractive scents of wild honey and lemon verbena, with a touch of saffron in the background. The palate is well-balanced with more purity than the 2011, with much better acidity and a lovely touch of crème patisserie mixed with orange pith and apricot on the finish. Perfect to drink now and over the next decade. Tasted from a bottle sent directly from Sigalas Rabaud to the UK.

The 2012 Sigalas Rabaud has a lovely bouquet, very pure with white peach, quince and saffron scents. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, good weight, density and fine acidity with much more botrytis towards the finish than the 2012 Château de Malle. Not long term, but certainly worth checking out. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

Full bottle 1,284 g. Typically 90% Sémillon and 18 months in oak. RS likely to be more than 120 g/l though I don't have the stats for this vintage. Deep coppery gold. Intense, rich aroma of barley sugar, almond paste, bitter orange and apricot. On the palate, luscious, viscous, very sweet but with balancing acidity. So viscous it is physically quite hard to spit this (and too delicious to spit as well). Fabulous richness and intensity with the bitter citrus enhancing the freshness in such a sweet wine. A mouthful of deliciousness. (JH)

Tasted blind. Big and rich and tropical-fruit-like. Massive weight and even a hint of coconut! Exotic. Slightly hot finish – maybe just a bit too much? Ashy finish. (JR)
