The Meursault Village has a lifted, perfumed bouquet of orange blossom, apricot and even a touch of marmalade that is well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp line of acidity, fine tension and lovely poise on the finish. This is a well-crafted Meursault that should drink well over the next five or six years. Tasted May 2013.

Lovely lift to the aromas of stone fruits and spices complicated by truffle, hazelnut and orange zest. Suave and silky but with excellent energy too. Intense, chewy and enveloping for village wine. Finishes pure and quite long, with noteworthy density. Lay this village wine down for a few years.

The 2010 Meursault presents layers of expressive, fragrant fruit to match an open, accessible personality. This is a decidedly overt Meursault with exotic overtones in its yellow stone fruits and butter flavors. Clean, saline notes reappear to frame the finish. The 2010 offers considerable early appeal.

Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Thierry Matrot told me he thinks 2010 is one of the greatest vintages of the last 30 years. Yields came in around 20-25 hectoliters per hectare, which is tiny by any measure. Batonnage gives the Matrot wines quite a bit of textural richness when they are young, along with the impression they are built for serious aging, but in my experience the wines need to be enjoyed within a few years after release. Unfortunately I was not able to taste the 2010 Meursault Perrieres for this article, although I hope to taste it soon. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802
