Tasting notes
The spectacular, saturated ruby/purple-colored 1997 Chianti Classico Riserva reveals intense aromas of smoked meats as well as jammy black cherries, raspberries, and over-ripe plums. Opulent and full-bodied, with extraordinary power, richness, and concentration, this is a decadently intense, rich, voluptuous Chianti that must be tasted to be believed. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Full blackish-garnet. Potent, penetrating and alcoholic on the nose, with notes of plum, raspberry, and licorice. Concentrated and intensely flavored; doesn't have the flesh or nuance of the Percarlo but shows a driving, straight-ahead power that is irresistible. Long, ripely tannic finish. Not a wine for the timid or the impatient, but impressive in its way.
