I was largely unimpressed with the 1997 Chianti Classico Riserva, a wine revealing an evolved color, herbal, rustic flavors, with little charm, fat, or fruit. Although it possesses good aromatics, it tastes dry and coarse. Importer: Clicquot Inc., New York, NY; tel. (212) 888-7575

Medium garnet, a bit light for the vintage. Forceful aromas are somewhat green and earthy. Offers some intensity on the palate, but comes across as a bit tough and in need of more flesh. Lacks the amplitude of a true Riserva.
