Golden amber. Looks so much younger than the Yquems. Much more use of SO 2 ? Not that much nose – sort of buttery/cheesy. A bit lighter than the Yquems with a hint of a sweet shop (candy store) but a real pleasure to drink now. Sweet and a little simpler than the Yquems. (JR)

The 1964 Climens has an Alsace-like but rather muffled bouquet, though it improves with aeration in the glass with touches of barley sugar. The palate has decent vigour with light mandarin notes, orange rind and lemongrass, quite poised and honeyed on the finish. This surpasses my expectations. Tasted November 2009.

Pale golden orange. Very sweet and lacking complexity but one of the smoothest, sweetest vintages here – like molten honey with a hint of orange-flower water. Still going strong. Just drying a little on the finish. (JR)

TA 3.8 (sulphuric), RS 98 g/l. Paler than the 1969 and the 1967. A little mushroomy on the nose. Bags of barley sugar flavour but just a little short on freshness so a bit flat in the middle.   (JH)
