The 2005 Petit Bocq has aged nicely, but it is also fully mature. Sweet dried cherry, iron, mint, earthiness, gravel and dried herbs all grace this mid-weight Saint-Estèphe. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years, before the fruit fades entirely.

A fruit-driven St.-Estèphe, which is somewhat unusual for the vintage, the 2005 Petit Bocq has attractive, ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, a distinctive earthiness, medium body and relatively soft but moderate tannins. Drink it over the next decade.

Good energy on the nose. Lots of acidity but very lively. Fruity attack. A very agreeable, competently made second-rank wine without the fruit intensity of a long life. (JR)
