Tasting notes
Score 90/100 · Drink 2006-2021, Robert Parker, Jun 2004

This estate’s debut vintage, 1998, was overly oaked, but subsequent vintages have gotten better, and this is the finest yet produced at this 9-acre vineyard (planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc). The omnipresent Stephane Derenoncourt is the winemaking consultant. The opaque purple-colored 2001 offers up a sweet perfume of espresso roast, kirsch liqueur, black currants, licorice, and spice box. Toasty oak makes an appearance on the palate, along with a wealth of fruit, concentration, and extract. This impressively-endowed Bordeaux should take on even more character as it ages. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and consume it over the following 12-15.

Score 88+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2004

Medium ruby-red. Aromatic nose combines black raspberry, blackberry, chocolate, cedar and mint. Sweet, lush and fine-grained on entry, then penetrating in the middle palate, with enticing minty lift. Finishes with some slightly dry-edged tannins. The 2003 seems riper and more pliant, but this offers excellent flavor definition.
