The 1989 Poujeaux is still impressively youthful, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, currants, cigar wrapper and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, rich and muscular, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe acids and largely melted tannins, it's a rather chunky wine from this typically sensual, elegant-styled estate.

Dark-ruby in color, with wonderful berry, cherry and grapey aromas. Full-bodied, loads of tannins and tons of fruit. Still closed. needs time. Biggest Poujeaux I have ever tasted, except for the 1928.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best from 2000 through 2008.James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1999

About the producer
The Cuvelier family, which also owns Clos Fourtet, purchased this estate in 2008. It is one of the stars of the appellation, renowned for producing wine that is well above the standard of its neighbours.
