The 1975 Trotanoy, which, according to a previous note on Vinous underwent just an 11-day cuvaison , has a heartwarming, inviting bouquet with open-knit red berry fruit, briar, leather, truffle and menthol aromas. It's the kind of bouquet you could just bathe in! The palate is medium-bodied and very harmonious with pliant tannins. It's less weighty than bottles encountered a decade or so ag, with hints of cooked meat, dried blood and bell pepper. Just so refined on the finish, the 1975 is a divine Trotanoy and well-kept bottles still have much to give. Tasted at the Pomerol dinner at Cornus in London.

The 1975 Trotanoy can be an extraordinary wine on the right day. This was the right day. Served blind from a magnum, unaware of its age, I was struck by the depth of its color. The bouquet is almost ineffably complex, a mixture of red and black fruit, black truffle (indicating its Pomerol origins), sage and dried rose petals. It was the delineation and sheer confidence of the aromatics that leaves you spellbound. The palate is beautifully structured, very Left Bank in style thanks to its tertiary nature, yet bridled with disarming tension and energy from start to finish. There is a twist of sour cherry right on the aftertaste, completing a stunning Trotanoy. I very much doubt I will ever encounter an example of this outstanding Pomerol as good as this again. Tasted October 2016.

The exquisite 1975 Trotanoy gets my nod as one of the three finest wines produced at this estate in the last 25 years (the others being 1970 and 1982). This wine has been drinking splendidly for several years, exhibiting fabulous mocha/toffee/jammy black-cherry aromas in a complex, sweet, fragrant bouquet. Full-bodied, splendidly concentrated, velvety-textured, with a firm finish, this is a weighty, rich, complex, great vintage for Trotanoy. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Like so many top Pomerols in the 1975 vintage, there is a sweetness and jamminess to this wine's fruit that is not found in most 1975 Medocs. This is a glorious Trotanoy!
