Tasting notes
14,000 bottles made. Fermented in stainless steel, also malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, followed by 14 months in 100% new barriques. Giacomo Conterno maintains that the new oak with all its open pores increases micro-oxygenation, helping the integration of acidity, tannin and fruit. Impenetrable crimson with a purple tinge. The new oak is obvious, very posh but very fine, and the concentrated fruit has no problem standing up to it with real integration. Very poised and fine. Very fine acidic vein and bitter liquirizia tannins. Closes up. Alcohol is almost imperceptible, very well balanced. Aromatics turn up on the finish again with hints of oak. Unusually for a Barbera, this needs and deserves more time in the bottle. (WS)

The 2007 Barbera d'Alba Conca Tre Pile is simply wonderful. Layers of ripe fruit, flowers, spices and French oak (verify, or new) shimmer on the palate with the radiance and silkiness that is the hallmark of this great vintage. The Conca Tre Pile is a beautiful, elegant and restrained Barbera that captures the essence of the Conterno house style. It is highly recommended.
