Ruby-red. Deep, smoky aromas of raspberry, medicinal cherry, game and earth; very Corton. Big, rich, layered and deep but with nicely focused flavors. Still youthfully unevolved. Tannins come across as quite fine, thanks to the wine strong buffering material. Consistent with the quality of the vintage on the Cote de Beaune, this cuvee seems much stronger than the '98 version did at a similar stage.
