Bright medium red. Pungent aromas of red cherry, raspberry, licorice, fresh herbs and minerals, plus a whiff of leather. Juicy, intense and taut, with noteworthy energy giving a light touch to the red berry and salty mineral flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and noteworthy persistence. Conveys an impression of noble rusticity and yet this rather polished Beaune wine has class too. Riper and finer in bottle than it appeared to be from the barrel.

Much sweeter and more giving on the nose than the Beaune du Château. Smells spicy and luxurious and rich. Dense but fine-grained tannins, surprisingly smooth already though the finish is dry. (JH)

Good dark red. Reticent nose offers black cherry, menthol and spices. Sweet on entry, then cooler and less open-knit in the mid-palate than the Teurons, with subtle flavors of blackberry and menthol. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and good energy. Most of these vines were replanted in 1988 and 1989, and the wine is only recently beginning to get more serious, notes Prost.
