Score 90/100 · Drink 2000, Robert Parker, Jun 2000

A La Chapelle on the verge of cracking up, this drinkable, earthy, spicy, garnet/amber-colored 1962 exhibits complex aromatics, a sweet, soft, round entry, medium body, a velvety texture, and opulent, fruity flavors. After 3-4 minutes in the glass, its acidity and tannin move to the forefront, and the fruit quickly fades. Interestingly, as it began to fade it took on the characteristics of an old Gruaud-Larose from the fifties. Owners should consume it immediately.
