Dull crimson. Sweet and polished and easy – not very challenging but pleasant enough with some slightly green tannins. Perfectly fine by 1990s standards! (JR)

The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2008 Clos Rene possesses abundant quantities of sweet black currant and blackberry fruit interwoven with subtle hints of smoke, earth, and truffles. Good fruit density, plenty of glycerin, round tannins, and a well-made, textured finish suggest this could turn out to be a sleeper of the vintage. It should drink well for 10-15 years.
