The 1989 d'Angludet does not quite possess the complexity as the 1982 tasted alongside, offering loose-knit forest floor and cigar box scents. It's just a bit loose at the seams. While the palate is balanced, I find a touch of greenness around the edges before tapering toward the finish. This is certainly not a bad Margaux, though I would consume bottles sooner rather than later. Tasted at the château.

The 1989 d'Angludet is drinking nicely, offering up aromas of sweet berry fruit, tobacco and loamy soil tones, followed by a medium-bodied, elegantly fleshy and open-knit palate framed by mostly melted tannins and ripe acids. Despite gaining weight in the decanter, it remains light on its feet. While it has been fully mature for at least a decade, and there's no reason to delay gratification any further, I suspect the 1989 will hold for some time to come.

The 1989 d'Angludet is one of this property's best wines since their excellent 1983. It does not, however, appear to have the stuffing necessary to surpass that wine. It is fat, plump, intensely fruity with a good ruby color, supple texture, high alcohol, and soft tannins. Anticipated maturity: Now-2002. Feb 1993, www.robertparker.com
