The 2004 Syrah Collezione De Marchi, an inky violet, is less expressive in its aromatics although it shows a generous quality in its dark, jammy fruit. I may have caught it at an awkward stage, but it appears slightly less convincing than the 2003. That said, its pedigree is unmistakable

About the producer
Situated north of Castellina, on the western side of Chianti Classico, Isole e Olena was created by the De Marchi family in the 1950s and has since become one of the region’s leading names. It is renowned for its top bottling Cepparello, a pure Sangiovese, as well as its brilliant Chardonnay.
