The 2010 Clos De L'Oratoire is still youthful, with a closed yet promising style in its darker fruits, graphite, sappy flowers, and chocolate-like aromatics. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, elegant 2010 that will keep for another 20 years. Drink 2025-2045.

The 2010 Clos de l’Oratoire comes across a little monotone on the nose, missing the personality of the 2010 La Dominique with light oxtail and earthy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, raisin-tinged entry, fleshy and spicy with notes of Chinese 5-spice and sage. I quite enjoy the herbal note on the finish, but I wonder whether this is going to be a long-term proposition. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Clos de l'Oratoire comes roaring out of the glass with maturing blackberry pie, Black Forest cake and new leather notes plus wafts of garrigue, bouquet garni and black tea. While there is a lot to love about this full-bodied beauty, it has a firm, chewy texture and the mid-palate fruit is drying slightly, finishing a tad rustic.

Tasted blind. Deep browning garnet. Developed tertiary and savoury aroma but still nicely fragrant with some cassis remaining and a minty lift. Dry, chewy texture but decent freshness. (JH)
