Tasting notes
This was the first vintage to benefit from the new fruit of 1994/95 plantings. Brighter red fruit aromas, exuberant, thanks to the grapes from those healthy young vines. Sweet cake spice. Very zesty, chocolate smooth tannins, fresh in the mouth. Lots of fun. (JH)

Saturated deep ruby. Youthful but expressive aromas of blackberry, blueberry, minerals, violet and nutty oak. Dense, concentrated, fruity and seamless, if still a bit youthfully aggressive. But this is creamy, ripe and broad, with compelling sweetness and ripe tannins. Silval, which is intended to be more accessible early on than Noval, is a blend of wines from the Noval estate and from Noval's best suppliers.
Purplish crimson. A bit of indistinct undergrowth on the nose. Definitely autumnal. Round, wild, quite fine – lots of ripe tannin. Interesting, not especially sweet – treacly. Quinta do Noval’s bottling made from bought-in grapes to the same high standards as their own ports. (JR)
