Tasting notes
Deep garnet-black in color, the 2002 Amon-Ra offers black fruit and plum pudding aromas with whiffs of coffee, nuts, licorice and a touch of game. Full-bodied and tightly-knit in texture, it has medium-firm, fine-grained tannins, and excellent concentration through the long, spicy finish. Drink it now to 2018+. Still seemingly very young and compact, the 2002 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra McLaren Vale is gorgeous and does almost everything right. Fantastic aromatics of bright, spicy and peppery blackberry and raspberry fruit, earth, smoke, leather and ripe eucalyptus notes lead into a full bodied, rich, balanced and long palate. This has noticeable acidity, structure and tannin.
Wow, one awesome wine and the 2002 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley was the highlight of the night for me. Gorgeous blueberry, blackberry and toasty oak on the nose. A full bodied, velvety mouth feel that just builds through the midpalate into a long finish. Still, even with all the concentration, this has a balanced feel that makes it a joy to drink. Awesome stuff.
