Magnum of this blend of 81.5% Chardonnay, 17% Pinot Nero and 1.5% Pinot Bianco based on 2019 with 26% 2018 and 3% 2017 reserve wine . Nose is still a little light (though it has been served straight from the fridge) but there is finely chiselled, very refreshing, fruit on the palate with a slightly soft, stone-fruit finish. Just the sort of brisk fizz for a group looking forward to a Christmas dinner before 1pm but not that long. (JR)

Celebrating a big anniversary, the Ca' del Bosco NV Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige Extra Brut 45 Edizione is mostly Chardonnay with smaller parts Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco. It's a blend of vintage and reserve wines from 2020, 2019 and 2018, and it ages on the lees for 25 months to produce aromas of rich lemon and freshly baked pie crust. The beading is visibly very light and delicate, and the palate is too. This is a very gentle sparkler with medium-plus freshness.
Lightly toasty nose and very crisp and dry. Neat but not that deep-flavoured. Nice, savoury aged-Chardonnay character to the palate but in quite a light register. Relatively neutral. But very fine mousse and texture. (JR)
