Tasting notes
Medium bright red. Pure, soil-driven aromas of red fruits, smoked meat, violet and underbrush. Wonderfully juicy and perfumed for the vintage, offering pure, intense flavors of strawberry, raspberry, smoke and minerals. For all its ripeness, this boasts terrific definition and cut. Finishes with suave tannins and excellent length. A superb if rather atypical example of the vintage.

Good medium red. Smoky red fruits, musky earth and a sexy oak component on the expressive nose. Suave and fine-grained, with lovely viscosity for the vintage. Finishes subtle and harmonious, with sweet, dusty tannins and good lingering richness. "This wine is always in advance," noted Clavelier. "In terms of harvest date and the time of the malo [in this case, March of 2008], it's always ahead of the rest of my wines." And it should also offer early charm for a grand cru. With a lot of millerandage, the crop level here was just 27 hectoliters per hectare, according to Clavelier.
