Tasting notes
Another inflection point in this tasting appears with the 2000 Vecina, the first wine in this vintage that is mature. That said, the 2000 has also aged gracefully. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, dried cherry, menthol and cedar give the wine its distinctive lifted aromatics. Soft and caressing in feel, the 2000 is probably best enjoyed over the next handful of years. Although not the most demonstrative or typical Vecina, the 2000 is very, very pretty.

Full red-ruby. Cooler on the nose than the 2001 or 2002 bottlings, offering scents of black cherry, licorice and graphite. Comes across as a bit shallow and dry following the last two vintages, showing a distinct medicinal quality. This seems to be mature but the tannins are still a bit dusty and dry, even gritty. I doubt this wine will every really loosen up.
The dense ruby/purple-colored 2000 Vecina offers up aromas of loamy earth, black fruits, chocolate, and toasty wood. I would not call it superficial, but it is no match for its younger sibling. Medium-bodied, with beautiful fruit, excellent purity, and a long, complex finish, it will drink well for 10-13 years. Good red-ruby color. Aromas of wild black raspberry, chocolate, graphite and sexy, smoky oak. Tightly wound and perhaps less dense than the '99, but riper than the 2000 Melbury. Flavors of currant, minerals and truffle. Finishes with big, youthfully aggressive tannins and very good length.
