The 2009 Lacoste-Borie is drinking beautifully. Open for business on the nose, it offers earthy, red berry fruit laced with cedar and subtle earthy tones. The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins, classic in style, yet the precocity of the growing season lends it a sense of rondeur towards the finish. Nothing amazingly complex - just a delicious Pauillac. Tasted at the château.

Round and easy. Not emphatic. Not great value. Hard work, none of the charm of many 2009s. Though lively. (JR)
Winemaker: François-Xavier Borie. Grape varieties: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. RS 2 g/l. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. The wine was then matured in oak barriques (50% new) for 18 months. Grand-Puy-Lacoste's 90 hectares of vines are in one block surrounding the substantial 19th century château and lie on deep gravel beds over limestone. Mid crimson. Very fine with classy oak and it’s already broachable too. Looks good too. Tanners are selling it for £26.95. (JR)
Mid crimson. Fragrant. Fresh and easy and almost drinkable already! Good Pauillac savour. A little alcohol and acid on the end. (JR)

In 1978 the Borie family took over Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Xavier Borie has been making exceptional wines here ever since. With 58 hectares of vines around the château, this is a wine with real Pauillac style.
