Pretty evolved on the nose, this is showcasing gentle tertiary flavours and is enjoyable, unfussy, open. Flavours major on earthy turmeric spice, undergrowth, tobacco, raspberry leaf, fresh acidities. Ready to drink, and although you really can see the difference between Larriver Haut-Brion in 2005 and where it is today, there's pleasure here.

Tasted blind at the 2005 Southwold tasting, the 2005 Larrivet Haut Brion Blanc has a lovely resinous, lightly honeyed bouquet with hints of toffee apple and nutmeg with just a touch of reduction. The palate is well balanced with good depth, actually not that far in style from a mature Chardonnay, with a pleasing waxy finish. I remember this showing very well back in 2009 and several years later it remains a supremely well-crafted, complex dry white Bordeaux. Tasted February 2017.
About the producer
Known as La Rivette prior to the late 19th century, this property is owned by the Gervoson family (best known for the Bonne Maman brand). They farm 75 hectares, with around seven of those dedicated to white grapes.
