Tasting notes
Vinfolio, Apr 2022

Rich and intense, the 1998 L’Apparita has a dark-fruited nose with hints of mocha, coffee, cigar and smoked meat. Bold, intense and rich, it’s textured with a full, layered mouthfeel, and very slightly drying finish. It’s a lovely comparison to the other wines from the 1990s, though edged by the elegance of the 1992.

The estate's 1998 L'Apparita is another wine that is quite true to the vintage, although in this case, that is a bit problematic as the tannins are noticeably green. The finesse and sheer pedigree of the best years is elusive. At this point, it is hard to see the 1998 improving with more bottle age. The beauty of the bouquet never fully translates onto the palate.

The impressive, opaque purple-colored 1998 l'Apparita reveals aromas and flavors of new saddle leather, spicy oak, and blackberry/cherry fruit. Powerful, muscular, and tannic, it needs 4-5 years of cellaring, and should keep for 15+ years.(Not yet released) A Leonardo Locascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620
