Score 90/100 · Daniel Thomases, Vinous

Deep, blackish ruby, though not as saturated as the best previous vintages. Sweet and oaky on the nose, with ripe plum, vanilla and brown sugar aromas. Full and smooth on the palate, with an elegant texture; strong, ripe fruit is attractively spicy. Offers plenty of weight and length but not quite the power or extra dimension of this wine at its best. Much like the 1991 in style, but the vintage to wait for is the spectacular 1998, soon to be bottled-along with the 1992, the best vintage Ama has made to date.
