Score 97/100 · Drink 2025-2040, Angus Hughson, Vinous, Sep 2022

This 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon John Riddoch, from a much-heralded vintage, is in a great place but still has plenty of time on its hands. It retains fantastic impact of primary fruit rippling with blackberry, cassis, choc mint and a strong backbone of cedary oak now beautifully entwined. Exceptional power and flavour density are driven by firm acidity and plentiful tannins retaining a streamlined shape through to a long, sustained finish. Stunning now but should continue to rise and hold for decades to come.
