Tasting notes
The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape is similar in style to the 1996, with slightly more structure. The wine possesses a dark plum/garnet color, and a sweet, Provencal herb, peppery, incense-like aroma that I found exotic. As the wine sat in the glass aromas of ripe peaches and apricots, and jammy cherry fruit emerged. Toasty notes also made its way into this flamboyant, intensely fragrant wine. This medium-bodied Chateauneuf du Pape displays fine depth and considerable character. It should drink well for 7-8 years - at the minimum. This estate's wine bottle sports a new, more elegant label since proprietor Claude Pouizin is sharing winemaking responsibilities with Monsieur Vacheron, who is a member of the well-known Loire Valley family in Sancerre.
