Tasting notes
I loved the 1990 Chateauneuf du Pape, and I suspect every wine from this vintage is fully mature and on a gradual decline, yet the the sunny nature of the vintage always shows and they can still offer pleasure. Cured meats, cocca, spice box, shitaki mushrooms and dried herbs all emerge from this fully mature Chateauneuf that still has fruit and texture. It's a classy wine.

The 1990 reveals a dark ruby/purple color, and a huge nose of jammy, sweet black fruits and herbs. In the mouth, the sweetness, glycerin, high alcohol, and gorgeous extract levels make for a sumptuous drinking experience. The tannins are silky and the finish is formidable. Anticipated maturity: now-2006. Last tasted 8/96. Robert Parker, Rhone Book # B3 Jan 1997
