Good full medium red. Complex, expressive nose offers redcurrant, licorice, brown spices, wild herbs and dried flowers. Large-scaled, deep and powerful for Brunate but with terrific definition and enticing minty lift to the red berry and spice flavors. Beautifully balanced Barolo with strong tannic structure and resounding length and grip. I love the combination of power and sweetness on display here.

The 2009 Barolo Brunate shows the deft hand of its creator. This wine is amazingly focused and precise. Its aromatic elements are presented in startling detail: Spice, pencil shavings, small berry fruit, leather and tar compete for your attention. The elegance and finesse felt in the mouth is superb. Hold off from drinking this beauty for five years or more. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. The wines of Roberto and Davide Voerzio offer a fitting conclusion to this tasting of Piedmont’s best red wines. These are stunning wines that capture, head on, the beauty of the 2009 vintage. They remind us of the dazzling heights achieved by the Nebbiolo grape. Importer: Winebow, Pinebrook, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620

A rich, explosive wine, the 2009 Barolo Brunate hits the palate with masses of dark fruit, pine, menthol, wild herbs, cloves and new leather. Firm yet well-integrated tannins provide the backdrop for this stunning, structured Barolo. The 2009 Brunate has class and pure pedigree to burn. When I was younger, I didn't really get the Brunate, but as I have gotten older my appreciation for this wine has grown. This is one sexy Barolo from Roberto and Davide Voerzio.
