Medium red. Redcurrant, plum, cherry, tobacco and earth on the nose. Supple and moderately sweet, with slightly dry-edged but reasonably intense flavors of cherry and tobacco. This can be drunk soon.
Slightly pale crimson. Lots of oak and mocha. A little too sweet and simple and soft then a note of (oak?) astringence on the finish. Uncomfortable to taste. Overall rather unconvincing. (JR)
This property has made pleasant noises over recent years about getting serious about quality, and the 2003 is one of their better efforts. Dark ruby-colored, with notes of compost, earth, cherries, and black currants, this medium-bodied Pessac-Leognan possesses a pinched, short finish, but pure fruit, low acidity, and an up-front personality that will reward early consumption. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
