Tasting notes
I had this wine on three occasions, and was surprised that it did not possess more stuffing and intensity. While good, it is not up to this chateau's usual standards. The aggressively woody 1997 Haut-Marbuzet reveals a hollow mid-section, but it does offer soft, ripe, coffee, earthy, black cherry fruit presented in a pleasant, medium-bodied format. A bit more concentration, extract, and length would have been preferable. Drink this wine during its first 4-5 years of life. (No tasting note was provided in Issue 128. A delicious red, with plum, berry and tobacco character. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a sweet fruit finish. Lovely. Drink now. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2000
