Tasting notes
The 1999 Shiraz Georgia's Paddock may merit an outstanding rating. The dense purple color is accompanied by abundant quantities of blackberries, pepper, and melted asphalt in its muscular, full-bodied yet supple-textured personality. Remarkably, the lofty alcohol (15.5%) is well-concealed in the rich, fruity, glycerin-filled finish. Drink this 1999 over the next decade. Importer: Old Bridge Cellars (Rob McDonald), Napa, CA; tel. Saturated ruby. Jammy, port-like aromas of superripe dark berries and nut skin. Thick, jammy and creamy in the mouth, with surprising acidity for a wine this ripe. Finishes with substantial, tongue-coating tannins. Doesn't have the sheer character of the '98, but this is certainly a mouthilling example of '99.
