Tasting notes
The 2002 Haut-Bages Libéral has a slight lactic, chocolaty bouquet with white truffles emerging with time. It feels a little smudged. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, solid and austere. You wish there was more fruit and flesh on the finish but it is not going to give it to you. Rustic and a little green. Tasted at the château.

Sweet and a little jagged with some bone dry, leafy elements. Very dry end. Serious stuff with a hint of buckwheat. (JR)
Deep crimson. Very ripe fruit and smoke. Pretty good and solid. Interesting! (JR)
Very deep bluish crimson. Low-key nose that has no negative aspect (i.e., not too herbaceous). Solid, rather satiny wine on the palate that just lacks a vital spark. Oak dominates refreshing acidity which is a shame. Very tannic finish. Over-extracted? (JR)
