From magnum. Deep garnet. Subtle but complex and spicy. Nice freshness on the nose, even a touch leafy but nothing like the 2000 tasted just before. Plenty of red fruit. Very St-Julien. Smells so youthful though it is not very open yet. More savoury and dark, darker fruit than the 2005, more mineral but with a juicy frehness. Well structured, dense, dry and mouthwatering finish, more grain in the tannin than in the 2005 and the 2000. Creamy finish. Still has power and depth. 13% (JH)

The 1999 Clos de Marquis reveals sweet black currant fruit on the attack, but the finish is tannic and compressed. Drink it over the next decade.

One of the leading estates in Bordeaux, Ch. Léoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest Classed Growths in the Médoc. Along with Ch. Ducru-Beaucaillou, it is widely considered one of the best estates in Saint-Julien.
