Tasting notes
Conterno-Fantino's 2000s shows beautifully when I tasted them at the estate in November 2010. The wines are built for the long-term, but they have matured evenly. The 2000 Barolo Vigna del Gris is a jewel of a wine. Sweet tobacco, mint, crushed flowers and cedar are some of the nuances that emerge from the glass. All of the aromas and flavors come together beautifully in this mid-weight, gracious Barolo. There is plenty of tertiary character in the glass, so the 2000 needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later.

Good medium red. Aromas of red cherry, dried flowers and minerals; shows more lift than the Parussi. Then a bit heavier in the mouth than the nose suggests, with the fruit sweetened by oak. Best today on the finish, which features substantial wood tannins and very good length and lift.
