The 2009 Cornas Granit 60 is still very dark in color, showing very little fading of color at the rim. On the nose, it offers hints of mint and dried fruit layered over deep cassis fruit, then more notes of licorice, roasted meat and sun-warmed stones with air. It's full-bodied and rich, plush at first, then velvety on the long finish. This was made with one-third whole clusters, the rest of the fruit was destemmed. While lovely now, it has at least another 5-10 years of prime drinking ahead of it.

From particularly old vines. Very deep crimson. Powerful and gorgeous. Some jewel-bright fruit in the dry register of Cornas. Lovely stuff! Fruit doesn’t quite disguise those very firm tannins yet. (JR)

A dramatic step up, yet very different in style and in need of serious bottle age, the 2009 Domaine Vincent Paris Cornas Granit 60 is a dense, incredibly mineral-driven wine that possesses deep, layered aromas of pure blackberry and raspberry fruit, violets, spice box, and crushed rock and chalk like minerality that wafts from the glass. Starting out dense and impenetrable, this fleshes out beautifully over the evening and is full bodied, thrillingly concentrated, and boasts a massively structured core and serious levels of tannin. Hide these in the cellar for 4-6 years, possibly longer, and plan on consuming it over the following decade or more.

Glass-staining ruby. Aromas and flavors of candied blackberry, violet and cola, with an intense spicy overtone. Juicy and expansive, offering an intriguing blend of richness and vivacity. Closes with excellent clarity and length, leaving a suave floral pastille note behind.
