The 1986 Filhot has an attractive, citrus-fresh bouquet with scents of dried honey, mandarin, beeswax and honeycomb. There is certainly commendable definition. The palate is maybe the best of the decade with fresh acidity cutting through the orange peel, dried mango and citrus lemon notes, longer than the 1989 Filhot with precision from start to finish. Excellent. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Château Filhot.

The 1986 is the best Filhot in my memory. The light golden color is followed by a wine with a floral, pineapple, and tropical fruit-scented bouquet, medium body, as well as lovely, elegant, and brilliantly pure, botrytised, lively flavors. Just medium sweet, this wine could be served as an aperitif wine. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 3/90.
