Tasting notes
Deep crimson, very sweet ripe dark cherries on the nose. Decanted but still slightly reduced – sligh note of struck match. Velvety deep-pile tannins. Smooth, rich and just fresh. Full bodied with bags of pure fruit. Sweet fruit and reasonable length. Already pretty approachable. (JH)

The estate's 2006 Avvoltore is a stunner. This dark, brooding beauty offers tons of depth in its ripe dark fruit, menthol, spices, new leather and roasted coffee beans. Despite its muscular, firm personality, there is more than enough richness in the fruit to provide balance. Avvoltore is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah aged in French oak.

Anticipated maturity: 2010-2021. Morisfarms is a great source for well-priced offerings from Tuscany’s Maremma. Consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli doesn’t miss a beat here, as these are all terrific wines. Importers: Doug Polaner, Polaner Selections, Mt. Kisco, NY; tel.
