Chewy, soft, smoky and autumnal. A nicely developing mushiness. (RH)

The 2006 Château de Saint-Cosme Gigondas is a classic Gigondas that has a layered, complex bouquet of mulled black cherries, toasted spice, serious minerality, cigar wrapper, and subtle spring flowers. This medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced wine has a rich, rustic texture, solid acidity, and sweet, ripe tannin on the long finish. While certainly drinking superbly now, it should continue to shine through 2020.
Saturated ruby. Deep, youthfully brooding cherry and dark berry aromas are complicated by licorice and black tea. A bit ungiving in the mouth, offering chewy dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors and a late note of lavender. Gained sweetness with air, but I find this pretty inscrutable today.
Blackish crimson. Already well integrated, comfortable nose. Thick and sweet and spicy at first and then with lots of acid and tannin. Leave this for quite a while… Very correct and un-messed-about but needs patience. Serve only with strong flavoured, food. Daube would be perfect. (JR)
