Rich ruby. The 1999 Barolo Ginestra offers slightly more evolved sensations of tobacco, leather, and macerated cherries with good length and big, broad tannins. Made in the potent style of the vintage, it doesn't quite have the elegance or finesse of the 2001 and will be at its best after another few years in the bottle.

Medium red with an amber rim. Aromatically expressive aromas of dried rose, truffle, underbrush and tobacco. Silky on entry, then uncompromisingly dry and distinctly closed in the middle, dominated by its structure today. At once dense and juicy, with fresh hints of red fruits and spices. Finishes with strong, granular tannins that hit the palate late and coat the teeth. Left behind strikingly complex aromas in the empty glass. An infant.
The 1999 Barolo Ginestra, with a classic and expansive nose of roses, licorice, and tar, warm and alcoholic, is quite solid and structured on the palate, mineral, dense, and tarry, and with an ample, solid flow from the mid-palate to the finish.
