As I have written before, the word that first comes to mind when I taste this wine is “delicious.” A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from 40-year-old vines, it is a supple-textured, fleshy effort exuding black cherry, spice box, and herb characteristics. With low acidity, lofty alcohol (13.5%), and copious glycerin as well as sweet tannin, this sensual St.-Emilion is best consumed over the next decade.
Weak rim. Sweet start. Extremely tarty and mocha oak like. Almost sickly. One could not drink more than a glass of this! (JR)
Moderately saturated ruby-red. Black cherry, chocolate and strong nutty oak on the nose. Sweet, pliant and fat, with slightly porty flavors of black fruits and nutty oak. Finishes with big, building tannins and a flavor of chocolate.

Ch. la Clotte is one of the Vauthier estates – along with Ch. Ausone. Classified as a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, the estate comprises four hectares of 50-year-old vines on terraced vineyards on the famous limestone plateau.
