Tasting notes
Conterno Fantino’s 2000 Barolo Parussi is the last they will produce – it has been made from a rented vineyard which now has been sold. The wine itself, as has always been the case, is less sweet and full than the other offerings, fragrant, floral, and spicy in aroma, round and silky in flavor and with attractive notes of tar and licorice, but shorter and less fleshy on the finish. Drink: 2005-2014. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900

Good deep red. Aroma of cherry liqueur; very ripe and fruity but less complex than the 2001. Sweet, lush and easygoing; a lovely mouthful of red fruits and mint. Not particularly complex but offers plenty of early appeal. Smooth tannins show a faint dry edge.
Bright, full red. Superripe aromas of red cherry and red berries; distinctly liqueur-like. Seamless and deep, with captivating sweetness and a more convincingly mineral character than either the '99 or the '98. A sappy wine with an impressively velvety texture. Finishes very long, with lush, fine, broad tannins and lingering sweetness of fruit. Fantino says this is easier to understand than the '99 example. I think they're both knockouts.
