The first Auslese I have tasted in this line up and a distinct step up in ripeness and fruit character – more apricot than citrus. Rich and viscous and wonderfully balanced. Very concentrated, very long and absolutely delicious. (JH)

One might get bored reading the same old description, but it’s not my fault that Hanno Zilliken is so consistent in coaxing such tantalising fruit aromas from his Auslese grapes. Fragrant peaches, animating grapefruit and zesty orange are almost a recurring theme throughout the years, but they never fail to excite. It’s not often that I use the term gorgeous in connection with acidity, but that’s exactly what it is in the Rausch Auslese 2012. Lively and luscious at the same time, the wine exhibits a wonderful balance of ripe and juicy fruit and mouthwatering freshness. Take in small sips and let it linger. (MS)
