Bright saline notes, citrus and crushed rocks jump out of the glass as the 2012 Meursault Les Perrières shows off its personality, class and pedigree. Smoke, graphite and a host of mineral notes appear later, adding focus to a tense, brilliant Meursault that hits all the right spots. This is a dazzling showing from Henri Boillot.

Bright light-medium yellow. Soft citrus, lemon, smoke and flinty silex on the nose. Smooth on entry, then precise and vibrant in the middle, with subtle citrus and smoke flavors currently dominated by minerality. Best today on the long, gripping finish, which offers piquant notes of pineapple, flowers and crushed stone. A beautifully balanced, very concentrated 2012 in the making.
This is also ripe though a bit more classic in its aromatic profile with a pretty and elegant mix of wet stone, spiced pear, green apple and white flower scents. While the medium-bodied flavors are also admirably well concentrated, they are not as powerful as those of the Poruzots, all wrapped in a lemony indeed even racy and intensely mineral-driven finish. This is lovely and I very much like the sense of underlying tension on the saline backend. Tasted: Jun 15, 2014. Drink: 2019+

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
