Tasting notes
Magnum. 45% Cabernet Franc, 55% Merlot. De Boüard’s first vintage, and already aged on the lees. Sweet and rather gorgeous and with some freshness. Kerpow! There is a bit of decay but also liquorice. (JR)

Amazingly deep ruby with brick shading at the rim. Some leafy freshness on the nose but this wine is definitely on the way out, in the most gracious way. An old lady politely waving goodbye, to be Broadbentian about it. Prunes. Gentle. Very well mannered. It was obviously very ripe at one stage but is just losing vigour and fruit. Just slightly sickly. (JR)
The 1985 is a seductively smooth, supple, broadly flavored wine with aromas and flavors of berry fruit and herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated, and delicious, this luscious, fully mature wine will drink well for another 3-6 years. Like many 1985s, it has reached full maturity more quickly than expected. Last tasted, 6/93.
Very concentrated, with plum and cassis character and a hint of nuts. It's full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and loads of coffee and fruit on the finish. Better after 1996.--The Bordeaux 50. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1994
