Score 87/100 · Drink 2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2025

The first vintage from the new cellar, the 2008 Pagodes De Cos is 53% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Petit Verdot. It has an evolved nose of baked red and black fruits, licorice, graphite, and roasted tobacco that comes up short when compared to the other vintages here. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Pagodes that has firmer tannins and a good finish. Drink up.

Clear spice, red peppers, black truffles, cassis bud, pomegranate, beautiful lift and freshness, giving a mouthwatering finish that is just extremely drinkable. 20% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 29 to October 13. Dominique Arangoït technical director, Eric Boissenot consultant. This was the first vintage in the new gravity-fed cellar, adding extra level of precision. Deep plum in colour, as is classic across the Cos wines, with low yields of 28hl/h (but as of this vintage the team really pulled back on green harvesting, pretty much stopping it entirely as of 2009 through to 2023). 20% new oak for ageing.

Tasted blind. Quite rich and sweet with an undertow of stoniness and tannin. A good, typical St-Estèphe. Excellent length. (JR)
