Tasting notes
Completely destemmed and vinified in stainless steel, the 2007 Cote Rotie Maison Rouge spent two years in 30% new barrels before bottling. While there's was a lot of hail damage in 2007, most of it was further north and the Maison Rouge lieu-dit escaped relatively unscathed. Giving up lots of cassis, vanilla bean, smoke and bouquet garni aromas and flavors, it's a ripe, forward, fleshy and sexy Cote Rotie that is drinking beautifully today. It has enough concentration, tannin and integrated acidity to continue showing nicely through at least 2022.

Deep ruby. Exotic, spice-accented aromas of black raspberry, cola and potpourri, with a smoky overtone. Lush, velvety red and dark berry compote flavors provide impressive palate coverage and pick up sweet violet pastille and spice cake elements with air. Deep but energetic, finishing with impressive breadth and sweet, floral-dominated persistence.
Light scented super-beguiling nose. Soft and easy and very Viognier-influenced! But so much pleasure – if you can afford it? Like a kiss. SO unlike Guigal style! (JR)
